I'm so very excited about this project I did last week (...with a little help from the Mr. for the wood cutting and hanging part !)
When we first moved into the house I found this great "House Rules" sign from Homesense (you all know my Homesense obsession right? This reminds me - I'm due for a visit.)
Anyway, we put it up in our entryway and realised it looked SO small compared to the wall space we had on that wall.
Well the holes were already in the wall so taking it down was not in our best interests. But what the beep could go on either side of it !
I was in a bit of a panic until I found a version of the wine bottle vase on another blog called "Shanty 2 Chic"
HERE is her link.
The difference is I used thinner wood, different stain and different hardware for my project.
Here is a look at my final product :
I seriously love it more every time I look at it, but I'm bias.
Here is what I used :
A long piece of pine board. Which my Mr. cut into 2 pieces of 7 by 18 inches.
Wood stain (I used one I had kicking around)
2 ceiling curtain rods holders (on sale - Yippee!)
2 clear wine bottle (Easy to find and an excuse to drink wine !)
Here is what the ceiling rod holder looks like:
You can get these in other colors as well.
Like I said above, my Mr. cut the wood into 2 pieces. We then drilled the ceiling rod holders into both pieces of wood.
Next step - A quick stain.
Please note - I did this backwards, your best bet would be to stain your wood first then apply your hardware. Either way, both work fine !
I applied only one very quick coat of stain, as I wanted the worn rustic look.
I was so excited that I got my Mr. to put them up before they were 100 percent dry !
Instead of flowers I used these pussy willows I found for a buck at our local dollar store, they add the perfect touch I was looking for, I couldn't be happier with the results.
They are just what was missing to go with our "House Rules" sign.
Hope you like them too !
